Summer has more than 15 years of experience in non-profit development. She began her career in fundraising for the Donald W. Reynolds Cancer Support Foundation in Fort Smith, Arkansas followed by four years at Sunshine School & Development Center in Rogers, Arkansas (a therapeutic preschool center and nonprofit organization serving adults and children with special needs.) While in college, she was a working single mother and became co-founder of the non-profit organization (NTSO) advocating for non-traditional college students at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR where she earned a bachelor’s degree in mass media specializing in public relations.
She is married to her hero and best friend, Randy Backstrom, but she almost always call him “Ran Ran.” She also has a 21-year-old son named Brody who will ALWAYS be her baby no matter how old he gets.
Summer truly loves working for Mentors Care and considers its mission to be honorable and the single most important work in her career thus far.
